A prayer to have a baby is one of the most personal prayers there is. Whether you have just started trying or have been hoping for a long time, these gentle prayers give words to the longing, the waiting, and the hope.

Below are short prayers to have a baby, a prayer to conceive a baby as a couple, prayers for fertility and pregnancy, prayers for the two-week wait, prayers for IVF and fertility treatment, prayers for the hard months, prayers you can pray for a friend, and Bible verses about God’s promise of children. Every prayer is original to Betteroo unless it is labeled as Scripture.

Prayer and good care go together. Near the end of this page is a short note on when doctors suggest a fertility check, so you never have to choose between faith and getting answers.

Short Prayers to Have a Baby

Lord, You know the desire of my heart. Please bless us with a baby. Amen.
God, I am ready to be a mother. Prepare my body and my heart. Amen.
Father, You formed every child in the womb. Form one in mine, in Your time. Amen.
Jesus, hold my hope gently, so it does not break while I wait. Amen.
Lord, open the door to a baby for our family, and give us peace as we wait. Amen.
God, nothing is too hard for You. I trust You with this longing. Amen.
Father, this month, bless us with new life. Amen.

If You Only Read One

Jesus, hold my hope gently, so it does not break while I wait. Amen.

Trying for a baby is a cycle of hope and disappointment, sometimes every month. This prayer does not ask you to hope less. It asks God to protect your hope, which is often what an aching heart needs most.

Prayer to Conceive a Baby as a Couple

A prayer to conceive a baby can be prayed together, holding hands, at night or before you start a new cycle.

Lord, we come to You as one. We long for a child to love and raise in Your ways. Bless our marriage with a baby, and keep us close to each other while we wait. Let this season make us a stronger team, not a more anxious one. Amen.
Father, You created family. We ask You to grow ours. Give us patience with our bodies, tenderness with each other, and trust in Your timing. Amen.
God, we want to become parents. Prepare us now: make us wise, kind, and steady, so that when our baby comes, they arrive in a home full of love. Amen.
A husband’s prayer. Lord, I see how much my wife carries. Help me carry it with her. Bless us with a child, and until then, help me love her well through every month of waiting. Amen.

Prayer for Fertility and Pregnancy

These prayers for fertility and pregnancy ask for healing and health in the body God made.

Lord, You made my body with care. Heal what needs healing, balance what needs balancing, and make it ready to carry new life. Amen.
God, I lay my cycle, my hormones, and my test results before You. Guide my doctors to the right answers. Amen.
Father, bless my husband’s health too. Let our bodies work together to create a healthy baby. Amen.
Jesus, when a pregnancy begins, let it be strong, healthy, and full term. Protect our baby from the very first day. Amen.

Prayers for the Two-Week Wait

Lord, these are the longest days of the month. Help me stop counting symptoms and start resting in You. Amen.
Father, whatever the test says, I am still Yours. Guard my heart this week. Amen.
God, if new life has begun, protect it. If it has not, comfort me. Either way, stay close. Amen.

Prayer for IVF and Fertility Treatment

Lord, today is transfer day. Bless this tiny embryo, help it implant and grow, and quiet my racing mind. Amen.
God, thank You for the doctors, nurses, and science helping us. Guide every appointment, every injection, and every decision. Amen.
Father, treatment is expensive and exhausting. Provide what we need, and help us not lose ourselves in the process. Amen.
Jesus, whether this baby comes through IVF, IUI, adoption, or a surprise, let our family be built in Your love. Amen.

If you are considering every path to parenthood, our adoption quotes celebrate families built through adoption.

Prayers for When It Is Taking a Long Time

Some months are hard. These prayers are for the negative tests, the baby showers that hurt to attend, and the questions that have no answers yet.

Lord, another negative test. I am sad and tired. Sit with me in this. Amen.
God, it hurts to watch everyone else announce their pregnancies. Give me grace to be happy for them and honest with You. Amen.
Father, I do not understand Your timing. I am choosing to trust You anyway, even with tears. Amen.
Jesus, remind me that I am loved, whole, and enough, with or without a baby in my arms right now. Amen.

If you have lost a pregnancy, our rainbow baby quotes are written for families hoping again after loss.

Prayers to Pray for a Friend Who Is Trying to Conceive

Lord, my friend longs for a baby. Bless her body, comfort her heart, and give her a child in Your perfect time. Amen.
God, help me be a gentle friend: quick to listen, slow to give advice, and faithful in prayer. Amen.
Thinking of you today and praying for your heart, your body, and the baby you are hoping for. I am in your corner.

Faith and Fertility Care Go Together

When to talk to a doctor

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends a fertility evaluation if you have not become pregnant after 1 year of trying, or after 6 months if you are older than 35. If you are older than 40, ACOG suggests talking with your ob-gyn about an evaluation now. Asking for help is not a lack of faith. Read ACOG’s guidance.

  • Pray at a set time. Many couples pray together at the start of each cycle.
  • Keep a prayer journal. One day you may read it to the child you prayed for.
  • Protect your marriage. Plan time together that has nothing to do with trying.
  • Find your people. A friend, pastor, or support group who understands makes the wait lighter.
