A Mother’s Day prayer is a beautiful way to thank God for the moms who shaped us and ask Him to bless them for the road ahead. Whether you are praying for your own mom, your wife, a brand new mother, a grandmother, or the moms in your church, these prayers give you words to lift every mother up.

Below you will find short Mother’s Day prayers, a Mother’s Day prayer for mom, a blessing for new moms, a prayer for your wife, prayers for grandmothers and bonus moms, a Mother’s Day prayer for church, a mother’s prayer for her children, a gentle prayer for those who find the day hard, and Bible verses for Mother’s Day. Every prayer is original to Betteroo unless it is labeled as Scripture.

Praying for your mom on an ordinary day? Our prayer for my mother is made for everyday prayer, and our Bible verses about mothers gather the Scripture in one place.

Short Mother’s Day Prayers

Short enough for a card, a toast at brunch, or a quiet moment before church.

Lord, thank You for the mothers who love without keeping score. Bless them with rest, joy, and peace today. Amen.
God, bless my mom. Thank You for her hands, her prayers, and her patience with me. Amen.
Father, on this Mother’s Day, let every mom feel seen, thanked, and wrapped in Your love. Amen.
Jesus, give tired mothers strength for today and sweet sleep tonight. Amen.
Lord, thank You for the women who mothered me, by birth and by love. Bless each one. Amen.
God, fill every mother’s cup today, because she spends so much of it pouring for others. Amen.

If You Only Read One

Lord, thank You for the mothers who give before they are asked and love before they are thanked. Today, let them receive. Fill them with Your rest, surround them with grateful hearts, and remind them they are deeply loved. Amen.

This Mother’s Day prayer works at the brunch table, in a card, or at the start of a service. It asks God to let the givers receive, which is exactly what most moms need.

Mother’s Day Prayer for Mom

Lord, thank You for my mom. Thank You for every meal, every late night, every prayer she whispered over me when I did not know it. Bless her health, her heart, and her days. Let her know how grateful I am. Amen.
God, as my mother grows older, keep her strong in body and bright in spirit. Give her joy, good friends, and many more Mother’s Days with us. Amen.
Father, where my mom and I have hurt each other, bring healing. Thank You for the good she gave me, and help me honor her well. Amen.
Lord, give my mom a day of real rest. Let her be served instead of serving, and let her feel how loved she is. Amen.

A Blessing for New Moms

A first Mother’s Day often arrives with a newborn, very little sleep, and very big feelings. These prayers are for the brand new mother.

Lord, bless this new mom. Heal her body, steady her heart, and give her rest in every short window she has. When she feels unsure, remind her that she is exactly the mother her baby needs. Amen.
God, thank You for this new life and for the woman who carried it. Surround her with help, kindness, and people who notice when she is tired. Amen.
Father, during the night feedings and the endless rocking, be near to this mama. Let her feel Your peace in the quiet hours. Amen.

Prayer and care go together

Baby blues usually fade within about two weeks. If a new mom feels sad, anxious, or numb for longer than that, has trouble caring for herself or the baby, or has thoughts of harming herself or the baby, she should contact her doctor or midwife right away. The National Maternal Mental Health Hotline is free and confidential, 24/7: call or text 1-833-852-6262. In an emergency, call 911.

Mother’s Day Prayer for My Wife

Lord, thank You for my wife and the mother she is to our children. Bless her body, her rest, and her joy. Help me lighten her load today and every day. Amen.
God, when my wife wonders if she is doing enough, remind her that our children are thriving in her love. Give her peace and confidence. Amen.
Father, protect the heart of the mother of my children. Let her feel cherished, appreciated, and deeply loved. Amen.

Mother’s Day Prayers for Grandmothers and Bonus Moms

For grandmothers

Lord, thank You for grandmothers who pass down faith, recipes, and gentle wisdom. Bless their health and fill their homes with visits and laughter. Amen.
God, thank You for my grandma’s prayers that have covered our family for years. Cover her now with Your love. Amen.

For stepmoms, foster moms, and spiritual mothers

Lord, bless the women who mother by choice: stepmoms, foster moms, adoptive moms, aunts, teachers, and mentors. Reward their love and let them know it matters. Amen.

Mother’s Day Prayer for Church

A congregational blessing a pastor or leader can read aloud, with mothers standing if they wish.

Gracious God, we thank You today for mothers: birth mothers, adoptive and foster mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, and every woman who has nurtured a child in love. Thank You for their sacrifices, seen and unseen. Give them wisdom for each season, strength for the long days, and rest for weary bodies. Where they feel they have failed, cover them with grace. We also hold before You those for whom this day is tender: those who miss their mothers, those longing for a child, those who have lost a child, and those with a painful story. Meet each one with Your comfort and nearness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lord, bless every mother here today. May their homes be full of peace, their hearts be full of hope, and their children rise up and call them blessed. Amen.

A Mother’s Prayer for Her Children

Mother’s Day is also a day for moms to pray. These are prayers a mother can pray over her children, at any age.

Lord, thank You for the children You gave me. Protect them where I cannot, guide them where I cannot see, and love them even more than I do. Amen.
God, give me patience for today’s spills and tantrums, and wisdom for tomorrow’s bigger questions. Help me be the mother my children need. Amen.
Father, as my children grow, let them know they are loved by You and by me, no matter what. Keep their hearts soft and their faith strong. Amen.
Lord, I cannot do this perfectly. Fill in the gaps with Your grace, and let my children remember the love more than the mistakes. Amen.

A Gentle Prayer for Those Who Find Mother’s Day Hard

If you are missing your mom, waiting for a child, grieving a pregnancy or a baby, or carrying a complicated story, this prayer is for you.

Lord, today is tender. Hold me where I hurt. Thank You that You see every tear and every hope I carry quietly. Comfort me with Your nearness, and give me peace for today. Amen.
God, for the mother I miss, thank You for the love she gave. Let her memory be a blessing in our family. Amen.

Bible Verses for Mother’s Day

These verses are quoted from the King James Version, which is in the public domain. Read one before your Mother’s Day prayer or write it in a card.

Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.Proverbs 31:25 to 26 (KJV)
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.Proverbs 31:28 (KJV)
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.Proverbs 31:30 (KJV)
As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.Isaiah 66:13 (KJV)
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.Isaiah 40:11 (KJV)
When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.2 Timothy 1:5 (KJV)

How to Use a Mother’s Day Prayer

  • Pray it at brunch. A short prayer before the Mother’s Day meal sets a grateful tone.
  • Write it in the card. A one-line blessing under your note is something she will keep.
  • Personalize it. Add her name and one specific thing you are thankful for.
  • Pray with her. Holding your mom’s hand while you pray can mean more than any gift.
  • Remember the hurting. In church, a line for those for whom the day is hard makes the day kinder.
