The baby sleep consultant cost in Australia is about $400 for a typical starter package (a sleep plan plus follow-up support), with the middle half paying about $370 to $520, while one-off calls cost about $115 and overnight help about $900 or more.
Those figures come from Betteroo’s October 2026 check of 22 Australian consultants’ published prices, read on each consultant’s own website. Prices vary widely, from a $49 phone call to multi-night programs listed from $4,333, so knowing what each tier includes matters as much as the number.
Below you will find prices by service type, a table of all 22 consultants, the add-ons that raise the bill, what Medicare and private health insurance do and do not cover, and the free public sleep services many Australian families can use first.
Key Takeaways

How We Got These Numbers
Our ten Australian city guides recorded too few prices to describe the market, so on October 22, 2026 we opened the website of every consultant featured in those guides and read their own pricing pages.
- What we checked: the websites of 26 consultants and practices. Of those, 22 published at least one price and 4 asked families to get in touch for a quote. Many consultants only quote after a free discovery call.
- What we counted: 102 individual prices, each with the service name and the page we read it on. Gift vouchers, sale prices and anything not on the consultant’s own site were left out.
- Entry versus top price: for each service type we took each consultant’s cheapest listed option, so a business with five tiers counts once. Each consultant’s most comprehensive plan-and-support package had a median of about $470; the highest was a 12-month program at $2,200.
- Add-ons kept separate: follow-up calls for existing clients, extra support weeks, travel charges and hourly rates are described in the add-ons section rather than mixed into the medians.
- Limits: 22 consultants is a small sample that leans toward the cities our guides cover. Treat it as an October 2026 snapshot.
Several consultants note that their prices include GST. In the United States, Betteroo’s review of published prices from more than 430 U.S. sleep consultants profiled in our city guides (prices as listed June to October 2026) found a median starter package of $450 in U.S. dollars; see U.S. sleep consultant prices or UK sleep consultant prices if you are comparing. You can browse consultants by city in Betteroo’s sleep consultant directory.

What You Get at Each Price Point
- Under $150: a short call or a downloadable guide: answers to a few specific questions, such as nap timing, but usually no written plan or follow-up. Good for one narrow problem.
- $150 to $300: a longer call, a newborn consult, or a plan with one support call or a few follow-up emails.
- $300 to $600: the core of the market. In our sample, about 7 in 10 starter packages sat under $500. Expect an intake questionnaire, a personalized plan, a call or video session and about 1 to 4 weeks of daily or weekday check-ins by text, email or app.
- About $230 to $1,300: an in-home visit, usually 2 to 3 hours around bedtime, plus follow-up.
- About $900 to $1,500: a single overnight stay with hands-on settling, then phone support.
- $4,000 and up: multi-night, live-in programs. One provider in our sample lists 3 to 5 night packages from $4,333 to from $8,888 depending on the number of nights and the city, with travel included.
What Drives the Price
- Length of support: the biggest driver. In our sample, one consultant’s 1 week phone program was $369 and the 2 week version $489.
- Virtual versus in person: home visits cost more than phone or video packages. Many consultants in our sample offer phone or video support Australia-wide, so you are not limited to someone in your suburb.
- Overnight hands-on help: you are paying for 10 to 12 hours of someone’s time.
- Your child’s age and needs: newborn consults tend to be shorter and cheaper.
- Twins and multiples: priced higher. In our sample, one consultant charged $495 for a twins in-home visit versus $395 for a single baby, and another $335 for a twin sleep plan versus $185.
- Background and experience: backgrounds vary, so ask whether a consultant holds a health registration such as nursing or midwifery, and what you are paying for.
Hidden Costs and Add-Ons
Patterns from the pricing pages we read:
- Extra support weeks: if your plan needs longer, extra weeks are sold separately. Listed prices in our sample ran from $100 for one extra week to $250 for three weeks, and up to $349 for a 7 day add-on.
- Follow-up calls later: follow-up calls for past clients were listed at $49 to $150.
- Travel fees: outside a set radius, some consultants add $50 to $100.
- Hourly in-home time: some price in-home help by the hour (for example $150 per hour).

Free and Subsidized Sleep Help in Australia
Raising Children Network says your local child and family health center is a good place to start, and that most government parenting centers are free because Medicare covers the cost.
- Child and family health nurses: free advice on sleep and settling through your local center (called Maternal and Child Health in Victoria). Raising Children Network notes that some early parenting centers need a referral from your nurse or GP, while others take bookings directly.
- Tresillian (NSW and ACT): Tresillian says its Day Services are free for families and covered by Medicare, and its Residential Services (a 4 night, 5 day stay) are covered by Medicare and/or private health insurance. A small accommodation and meals fee applies if both parents stay overnight. Tresillian says you can refer yourself to most services, and its Parent’s Help Line is free.
- Karitane (NSW): Karitane’s residential service supports families with children from birth to 5 years, with most families staying 2 to 4 nights. Karitane describes it as a free service for Medicare card holders, and you can self-refer online.
- Victoria’s early parenting centers: the Better Health Channel says these centers (including Tweddle, the Queen Elizabeth Centre, O’Connell Family Centre and Barwon Early Parenting Centre) offer residential, day stay, group and in-home support for families from pregnancy to age 4, free for eligible Victorian families, with no Medicare card needed. You can be referred by your maternal and child health nurse or GP, or contact a center yourself. The Maternal and Child Health Line (13 22 29) is available 24 hours, 7 days.
- Ngala (WA): Pregnancy, Birth and Baby describes Ngala’s services as free, and its Parenting Line ((08) 9368 9368) runs 8am to 8pm every day of the year.
- Pregnancy, Birth and Baby helpline: a free call (1800 882 436) with a maternal child health nurse. Call charges may apply from a mobile.
Raising Children Network notes that parent helplines operate around Australia, some after hours, and your child and family health nurse can tell you which services are available near you.
Does Medicare or Private Health Insurance Cover a Sleep Consultant?
We found no Medicare item or government page that covers private sleep consultants. Medicare funds the public services above instead: Raising Children Network says most government parenting centers are free because Medicare covers the cost.
For private early parenting centers, Raising Children Network says Medicare does not cover the full cost, and private health insurance may refund some of it. Do not assume a sleep consultant is covered: ask your fund in writing before you book.
Is a Baby Sleep Consultant Worth the Cost in Australia?
For some families, yes. A consultant can be worth it when free options have not worked, exhaustion is affecting your health, or you want daily check-ins while you follow a plan. That accountability is what most of the money buys.
You probably do not need one if:
- Your baby is a newborn and you mostly want to know what is typical. Start with baby sleep by age.
- You have not yet used the free routes above, especially your child and family health nurse.
- Your baby might be unwell. Reflux, feeding trouble, poor weight gain or breathing concerns need your GP first (see reflux and sleep).

How to Choose a Sleep Consultant (and Red Flags)
Sleep consulting is not a regulated health profession in Australia. Ahpra’s 15 National Boards cover professions such as nursing and midwifery, medicine and psychology; there is no board for sleep consultants, and a sleep consulting certificate is not an Ahpra registration.
Questions for a free discovery call:
- What is your background, and are you registered with Ahpra in any profession?
- Which settling methods do you use, and can you adapt if my approach is gentler or faster?
- Exactly how long is support, by what channel, and on which days?
- What does the full cost include, and what costs extra?
Red flags:
- Any sleep advice that conflicts with safe sleep. Red Nose recommends always placing a baby on their back to sleep, keeping the head and face uncovered, and a safe sleep space in the same room as a parent or caregiver for at least the first 6 months. See our safe sleep environment checklist.
- Promises that your baby will sleep through the night by a set date.
- Telling you to skip your GP or child and family health nurse when you have health concerns.

The Bottom Line
In our October 2026 check of 22 Australian consultants, a plan with follow-up support usually cost about $370 to $520, with in-home and overnight help costing far more. Start with the free options: your child and family health nurse, a parent helpline and, if needed, a public early parenting center. If you then choose a private consultant, compare the length of support rather than the headline price, get the full cost in writing, and make sure every recommendation follows safe sleep guidance.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a baby sleep consultant cost in Australia?
In Betteroo’s October 2026 check of 22 Australian consultants’ published prices, a starter package with a sleep plan and follow-up support had a median of about $400, with the middle half paying about $370 to $520. One-off calls were about $115, in-home visits about $500 and single overnight stays about $1,250.
Is it worth paying for a sleep consultant?
It can be if you have tried free help and are still stuck, or exhaustion is affecting your health. Most of the cost buys daily accountability while you follow a plan. If your baby is a newborn, might be unwell, or you have not yet spoken to your child and family health nurse, start there first.
Does Medicare cover a baby sleep consultant?
We found no Medicare item or government page that covers private sleep consultants. Medicare does fund public services: Raising Children Network says most government parenting centers are free because Medicare covers the cost. Private health insurance may refund some private early parenting center costs, so ask your fund directly before booking anything.
How long does sleep consulting take?
Most starter packages we checked include about 1 to 4 weeks of follow-up support after the first consultation, by text, email, app or calls. One-off calls have no follow-up. Premium programs can run longer, and a few consultants sell extra support weeks if your family needs more time.
What is included in a sleep consultant package?
A typical package includes an intake questionnaire or sleep log, a phone, video or home consultation, a personalized written plan, and a set period of check-ins by text, email, app or calls. In-home packages add a visit, often over bedtime. Inclusions vary, so ask for them in writing.
Can I sleep train without a consultant?
Yes. Many parents use a well-researched method on their own once their baby is old enough and healthy. Free support from your child and family health nurse, a parent helpline or a public early parenting center can help you choose an approach and stick with it safely.
