How Auckland parents choose
- Nine of the ten doulas are listed on the NZ Doulas directory and every one was checked against her own website or profile on 5 October 2026.
- Six publish their prices: packages from $950 to NZ$4,500, single visits $320 to $330, and overnight care around $350 to NZ$600. Every price is quoted exactly as published.
- Your LMC’s postnatal visits and Well Child care are publicly funded; a postpartum doula is paid, non-medical help on top of them.
- Specialists include a twin postpartum doula, a Registered Nurse with 30 years’ experience, and a doula who works in Arabic, French and English.
- Blank fields mean we could not verify that detail from the doula’s own site, not that it does not exist.
Important
Postpartum doulas provide non-medical practical and emotional support. They do not diagnose or treat medical conditions, and they are not a substitute for your Lead Maternity Carer, GP or Well Child provider. If you have symptoms of a postpartum complication, or thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, contact your LMC or GP, or call Healthline on 0800 611 116. In an emergency call 111.
Common questions Auckland parents ask
How much does a postpartum doula cost in Auckland?
Six of the ten doulas here publish prices. Multi-visit packages run from $950 for 12 hours of care over two weeks to NZ$4,500 for 75 hours, single visits of three to four hours are $320 to $330, and overnight care is listed at around $350 to NZ$600 a night. One doula also lists a $50 hourly fee. Every figure is copied from the doula’s own site; where nothing is published the field is blank rather than estimated.
What does a postpartum doula do?
A postpartum doula supports the parent who has just given birth, at home, in the first weeks: newborn care while you rest or shower, feeding and settling support, meals and light housework, and someone to talk to about how the birth and the early days are going. Several doulas here also do overnight shifts so parents can sleep. They are non-medical and refer you back to your LMC, GP or lactation consultant when something needs clinical attention.
Isn’t postnatal care already free in New Zealand?
Your Lead Maternity Carer visits you at home for the first weeks after birth and then hands over to a Well Child Tamariki Ora provider such as Plunket, and that care is publicly funded. A postpartum doula is paid, private, practical help on top of it: longer visits, meals, housework, overnight care. It does not replace your midwife or Well Child checks.
Can I get help paying for a postpartum doula?
Smadar Zmirin of Twinful Life notes that newborn twin mothers with older children under five can get WINZ subsidies for her postpartum support, and that multiple birth club members receive a discount. Julia Matthews and Tia Corbett both say on their own pages that cost should not rule anyone out and invite you to ask about options.
Which Auckland doulas cover my area?
Three are on the North Shore and Hibiscus Coast, three in central Auckland, one in West Auckland and one in Franklin (Paerata Rise, Pukekohe, Karaka and Drury). Two list Auckland as their base without naming a suburb. Auckland is spread out, so confirm travel with the doula before you book; Sacred Beginnings, for example, prices its packages for a 10km radius of central Auckland.
Do any Auckland postpartum doulas work in other languages?
Eva Maria Ghannam is a native Arabic speaker and fluent in French and English, and offers online support as well as in person. Julia Matthews was born in France and moved to New Zealand in 2014.
