I contacted Sue before my third child was born because of a terrible experience trying to feed my second child. I'd given up feeding him at two weeks old after feeling let down by my local services when I struggled to feed due to cracked bleeding nipples and exhaustion. I was determined not to let it happen this time around. Sue visited me at home when my baby was only two days old and advised me while I lay in bed! She was warm, understanding, non judgmental and very helpful, suggesting adjustments to my latch when she could see I was in pain. The 1-2-1 time and expertise in those first few days was invaluable and I have no doubt that Sue's help and encouragement are the reason I'm still happily breastfeeding at six months with plans to continue. Sue visited me at my home when my little boy was two weeks old. As soon as I met her I knew she could help me, she was so calm and reassuring right from the start. My little one had tongue tie which meant he wasn't latching correctly which resulted in incredibly painful feeding. Sue spent time with me looking at my baby's positioning whilst feeding and his latch. All I can say is if I hadn't have met Sue I don't think I would still be feeding him three months later. The support from Sue continued after we had met – I messaged her on numerous occasions with lots of breastfeeding questions and she always replied so quickly with advice and kind words which reassured me instantly! My breastfeeding journey with my previous children unfortunately was shorter than I had planned but I can honestly say meeting Sue and having her at the end of the phone for reassurance has got me to where I am now and hopefully our breastfeeding journey will continue for many more months. — Naomi

I contacted Sue having found her number on the IBCLC website and she visited our family at home. Her calm, kind nature was exactly what we needed at the moment in our somewhat frazzled postnatal journey. Small adjustments that she suggested made a huge difference to our feeding. Simply having someone say “no, this shouldn’t be painful” and affirming what I had believed was so helpful. I'm very grateful to Sue for her help and gentle kindness on our breastfeeding journey and happy to say she played no small role in helping ensure we breastfed exclusively until our little one was weaned at six months. — Tessa
