- Seattle is the home of the Parent Coaching Institute, and five of these six hold its certification — the deepest concentration of certified parent coaches in any city we have checked.

Everyone listed here is a non-clinical parenting or behavior coach. They are not therapists, psychologists, or behavior analysts: they do not diagnose, they do not treat, and they do not provide ABA or any other clinical intervention. Coaching is support for parents, not treatment for children. If your child’s behavior is putting them or anyone else at risk, or you suspect an underlying condition, start with your pediatrician, who can refer you on.
Common questions Seattle parents ask
What does a child behavior coach actually do?
A Seattle child behavior coach works with the parent, not the child. They help you read what is driving a behavior, then give you concrete things to say and do — around tantrums, boundaries, transitions, sibling conflict, screen time, homework battles and big feelings. They are coaches and educators, not clinicians, and they do not diagnose or treat.
Is a behavior coach the same as a BCBA or an ABA provider?
No, and this directory deliberately excludes them. BCBAs and ABA providers deliver a clinical behavioral intervention, usually to the child. The coaches here work with parents on everyday parenting and are not licensed to treat. If you are specifically looking for a clinical behavioral assessment, ask your pediatrician for a referral rather than using this page.
When should I speak to a clinician instead of a coach?
Speak to your pediatrician first if your child’s behavior is unsafe to themselves or others, if it appeared suddenly or changed sharply, if it is badly affecting eating or sleeping, if school or preschool has raised a formal concern, or if you suspect a developmental or mental-health condition. In Washington that is the route into a developmental assessment and into Seattle Children’s. A coach can complement clinical care but is not a substitute for an assessment.
How much does a child behavior coach cost in Seattle?
Two of the coaches on this page publish their rates in full. Charlotte Dimock lists a 5-session package at $625, an 8-session package at $950 and single 45-minute sessions at $150 after a package. Kathryn Helde lists 60-minute sessions at $150 pay-as-you-go, dropping to $125 each in an 8-session prepaid package, with 75-minute two-client sessions at $190. The others do not publish rates, so those fields are blank rather than estimated; most offer a free intro call.
Do these coaches work over video?
Most do, and some work exclusively over Zoom. Parent coaching translates well to video because the work is a conversation with you about what happened at home, not an observation of your child. Across a region split by the lake and I-5 traffic, that makes a coach in Kirkland or Lake Forest Park a realistic option wherever in the Seattle area you live.
