Private consultations in the GTA commonly run from around $100 CAD for a virtual session to $200–$350 for a home visit, with follow-ups priced lower. Rates vary by region and by visit length. Where a consultant publishes her fees on her own site we reproduce them verbatim and link to the page; where she does not, we leave it blank rather than estimate.

It depends on the setting. Private in-home and virtual IBCLC consultations are not covered by OHIP and are paid out of pocket. Some physician-affiliated breastfeeding clinics do bill OHIP for an in-clinic visit with a valid infant health card, and hospital and public-health breastfeeding clinics are publicly funded and free. Many extended health benefit plans also reimburse private lactation visits, sometimes under a registered nurse, midwife or naturopathic doctor line where the consultant holds that credential. Ask the consultant what setting she is quoting and what receipt she issues before booking.

IBCLC is the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant credential — the highest in the field, requiring supervised clinical hours plus a board exam and recertification. Ontario also has hospital-based and public-health breastfeeding support staffed by nurses and counsellors. Yes. Most consultants on this page offer virtual visits, which work well for latch coaching, supply concerns, pumping and bottle transitions, and back-to-work planning. We mark who offers virtual support. A suspected tongue-tie or a weighted feed generally needs an in-person visit.

Toronto Public Health and the regional public health units in Peel, York, Durham and Halton run free breastfeeding clinics and phone lines, and La Leche League Canada runs volunteer peer support groups across the GTA. Private IBCLCs are usually the route when you want a longer visit, a home visit, or an appointment sooner than a clinic can offer.
