How Philadelphia parents choose

  • Every consultant here was checked against their own live website on 9 October 2026; all ten are IBCLCs.
  • Four publish visit fees. Posted initial in-home visits run $165 to $250, and virtual options start at $45.
  • Insurance is common: several are in network with Independence Blue Cross, AmeriHealth, Aetna, Cigna or UnitedHealthcare; others give a superbill.
  • The roster spans Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania suburbs and South Jersey, and most consultants come to your home.
  • Blank fields mean we could not verify that detail, not that it does not exist.

Important

The consultants listed here are lactation professionals, not your baby’s medical team. For weight-gain concerns, jaundice, signs of dehydration, or any question about your baby’s health, speak to your midwife, family doctor or pediatrician. In an emergency call 911. IBCLCs work alongside your care team, not instead of it.

Common questions Philadelphia parents ask

How much does a lactation consultant cost in Philadelphia?

Four of the ten consultants on this page publish their visit fees. An initial in-home visit is posted at $165 to $250, follow-ups at $90 to $175, and virtual visits from $45 for a 30-minute Zoom consult up to $200 for a 90-minute initial session. One consultant charges $200 for a two-hour home consult with unlimited phone follow-up. Every figure is quoted exactly as posted; where a consultant does not publish fees, the field is blank.

Will my insurance cover a Philadelphia lactation consultant?

Often, yes. Several consultants here are in network with Independence Blue Cross, AmeriHealth, Aetna, Cigna or UnitedHealthcare, and one participates with The Lactation Network. Others are out of network and provide a superbill you can submit for reimbursement. Check your own plan first, and ask about home-visit travel fees, which are usually billed separately.

Do Philadelphia lactation consultants come to your home?

Most do. Home visits are the default for this roster, usually within a stated service area such as Delaware County, Montgomery County or lower Bucks County, and several add a travel or convenience fee. Two practices also see families at an office, in Abington and in Pitman, and most offer virtual visits.

What is an IBCLC?

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant has passed the IBLCE board exam and recertifies every five years. Every consultant on this page lists the IBCLC credential; several are also registered nurses with NICU, maternal-child or home-visiting backgrounds.

How did you choose which consultants to list?

We started from the USLCA and ILCA public IBCLC directories and the Bornbir parent directory, kept private-practice consultants based in Philadelphia, its Pennsylvania suburbs or South Jersey, and checked each one’s own website by hand. Consultants in hospital, WIC or public-health roles, without a working website of their own, or whose home-visit area is outside the Philadelphia metro (such as the Lehigh Valley or Wilmington) are not listed.

How we checked this directory
