How Houston parents choose
- Every consultant here was checked against their own live practice website on 21 October 2026.
- Six of the seven publish self-pay fees, quoted exactly as posted. A first consultation runs $150 to $250, before any travel fee.
- Two of the seven, Faith Marshall and Barbara Miller, work together at Texas Lactation Consultants in the Houston Heights.
- Maricela Cantu (Sweet Beginnings) offers lactation support in Spanish.
- Blank fields mean we could not verify that detail, not that it does not exist.
Important
The consultants listed here are lactation professionals, not your baby’s medical team. For weight-gain concerns, jaundice, signs of dehydration, or any question about your baby’s health, speak to your midwife, family doctor or pediatrician. In an emergency call 911. IBCLCs work alongside your care team, not instead of it.
Common questions Houston parents ask
How much does a lactation consultant cost in Houston?
Six of the seven consultants here publish self-pay fees. A first consultation runs from $150 (Barb’s Babies) to $250 (Sweet Beginnings), and Texas Lactation Consultants charges $225 for an initial visit and $175 for a follow-up. Virtual sessions start at $50. Several add a travel fee for home visits, from $30 to $75. Every figure is quoted exactly as the practice posted it; where a consultant does not publish fees, the field is blank.
Is a lactation consultant covered by insurance in Houston?
Often, yes. Texas Lactation Consultants is in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare. Your Milk Story bills insurance through The Lactation Network, Branch Lactation through Wildflower for Cigna patients, and Nourished Lactation through Wildflower Health and The Lactation Network. Travel fees are usually not covered, so check your own plan before you book.
Do Houston lactation consultants do home visits?
Yes. Every consultant on this page offers home visits in part of the metro. Your Milk Story covers the area inside Beltway 8, Branch Lactation covers Fulshear, Katy, Sugar Land and the west side, Nourished Lactation covers Montgomery County, and Texas Lactation Consultants works from a Houston Heights office.
Can I see a lactation consultant in Spanish in Houston?
Sweet Beginnings Lactation (Maricela Cantu) states on its site that it offers consultations in Spanish (“Hablamos Español”).
What is an IBCLC?
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant has passed the IBLCE board exam and must recertify regularly. Every consultant on this page lists the IBCLC credential on their own practice site.
How did you choose which consultants to list?
We started from two public registries, the ILCA Find a Lactation Consultant directory and the USLCA member directory, added Houston-area practices listed on Bornbir, and kept IBCLCs in private practice with a live practice website that names them. Hospital and WIC roles, medical practices where lactation is a side service, and group practices that do not name a consultant individually are not listed.
